Midtones Returns! Plus Shin Kawasaki CD Release! July 7th!

The Midtones makes a mighty return!

From Shin Kawasaki:

well folks, here it is; after much experimentation, pursuit of perfection (and procrastination) - I am releasing my 1st solo effort. honestly, yet there’s still much room to improve, I believe that I managed to enclose a lot of different aspects of my musical interests in these tracks; some borrowed, some twisted and some improvised. it also showcases the amazing talents that I had the privilege of knowing over the course of 10 years that I lived, loved and grew old in this city of Los Angeles. it’s a kind of thank you note to the community that I was lucky enough to be a part of.

on July 7th, MidTones will make a comeback to its good ol’ 1st / 3rd Wednesdays routine. and I wanna invite you people to come out on a school night (I’M SORRY) to hang with me and the gang at Grand Star. in true MidTones spirit, I’m gonna invite the regulars and beyond to “jam” on some of the tunes included on the album. I am curious to see how these “constructed-inside-a-MacBook” grooves would be interpreted with a live ensemble…the night will also feature a special performance from ever-lovely MidTones Madeleines. the limited-run physical CDs will be available for you to purchase, which features an amazing drawing by Phloe!

2nd part of the night will be MidTones as we know it…we’ll open up and have people jam, dance and laugh (you can cry too) like we have legalized marijuana. you are welcome to bring friends who like jamming with new people, dancing to the music that ranges from Paranoid to My Funny Valentine. or Akon. maybe NOT Akon. don’t know. that’s a tough one.

FOR THOSE WHO CANNOT ATTEND due to geographical reason;
the album will be available for digital download AFTER the party,
I will let you know when it is!

Midtones Jam @ Grand Star in Chinatown hosted by Shin Kawasaki 5/11

Its time for the Midtones jam hosted by Shin Kawasaki ,bring your instrument! Note the date is moved to 5/11 and will repeat every 2nd and 4th Tuesday of the month from now on.

From Shin:
numbers are fascinating - even tho I truely "suck at math"
there are things about numbers I like,
such as the date of our next MidTones jam; 5/5/10...you get the idea,

other than it being Cinco De Mayo, it's the day Bob Gates was born!
the only guy that I know who can play a tune from Little Mermaid
perfectly without looking at the music...and our beloved regular,
Bob loves the party crowd and I'm putting you in charge in that department!

also featuring the set from DJ Waxstyles from 8:30 for you
school-night-conscious-party-people...
hey hey my my
rock'n'roll can never die

Midtones in Chinatown

Link
Midtones is an open event hosted by the great guitarist Shin Kawasaki on the 1st and 3rd wednesdays of the month and is, well...eclectic to say the least. Revolving musicians sit in, as well as rappers, DJ's, poets, dancers, and whatever walks through the door that night. Shin has been hosting this event at the Grand Star in Chinatown for well over a year now and you really never know what is going to happen. I have seen them actually pull the party from the upstairs room because it was way more happening in the Midtones domain.

Also be sure to check out the blue haired funkiness of the alluring and equally creepy, Madeleines

From Midtones site:

"MidTones is an eclectic/experimental open jam that takes place @ Grand Star Jazz Club in Chinatown on 1st and 3rd Wednesdays of every month. if you play any musical instrument, use devices and machines that make noise, sing, rap, beatbox, write poems, dance, do stand-up, or like to hang out and meet people, have conversation with people, AND you're looking for something that is different, experimental, in the moment, no expectation, no categorization, no limitation (except for the midnight cut-out time) - this is the venue for you.
